We got word from the doctor yesterday regarding what "good" meant on the gene test and the results from the PNH test. There was a ton of very confusing information given to us but as we picked it apart there was a lot to be thankful for.
The PNH test came back negative and gene test came back normal. It's a huge relief to know we don't have to worry about a blood disease on top of it all. The normal gene test indicates that Joe may not have MDS. The doctor explained that it is possible that he could still have MDS but it might be an autoimmune disease. He explained that if it is an autoimmune disease there is one other possible treatment but it is still very likely that a stem cell transplant will be the treatment of choice.
The overall take away was that they don't know what is going on. Which is easy to take as bad news. Our good news is we have an appointment at Duke this Monday. Other good news is that Joes CBC (complete blood count) is holding steady.
We are all so thankful for your support and prayers. Going forward, please pray for the wisdom of the doctors treating Joe. That Joe's numbers would hold steady. That he would be able to retain his strength and weight going into whatever treatment it is. And the biggest one today is that Joe would be protected against the "bug" that Arleigh and I are fighting.
