Today was a day of re-checking everything. They took another sample of his bone marrow and 21 vials of blood from Joe. Needless to say they are being thorough. In a lot of ways we feel like we are staring back at square one. This is both refreshing and daunting.
At this point the doctor is saying we can't rule out anything. We're being told that there is a 20% chance this could be something small (like heavy metal exposure due to an inadequate filling). Obviously this is what we're praying for. Outside of that 20% there are the other more scary possibilities. 30% chance of aplastic anemia, 30% chance of MDS and another 20% chance they will have no clue what it is and begin treatment based off the small amount they do know and figure out what works in the process. While we hate these later options, it's nothing we haven't already braced ourselves for.
So here we are again in the waiting. Any of you that have met Joe and I know this is something we are Not good at. A lot of these labs are repeats that they will compare to the last round and many are more in depth diagnostics. All the results will trickle in over the next two weeks. We'll then either get a phone call or head up here again to talk about what treatment we're going to get started.
Thank you again for all your prayers. We'll especially need them for rest and peace in these next couple of weeks.
